What motivated you to want to become an engineer?
I always enjoyed problem-solving, engineering is always changing & improving the challenge of finding more efficient ways of meeting targets & looking to how we can improve on the past.
Any new technology in your field that you are excited about?
The development of 3D scanners/total stations which allow our BIM team to generate a model from an existing building is very useful.
How do you think engineers make a difference in the world?
There are many types of engineers from a design engineer to the more practically minded hands-on, it takes all types to deliver a project. In our industry we operate predominately in the life science sector, working for clients producing lifesaving products. Knowing you are part of a project that makes a difference keeps you going.
Can you please share advice that you have for anyone that is considering a career in engineering?
I don’t think you can underestimate the importance of practical experience in engineering, whether that be visiting a manufacturing plant or getting part-time job in a local engineering company, & ask questions, question everything you see.
