Senior Mechanical Manager
Manages and coordinates activities of HVAC design and engineering functions in remote office, provides manpower and technical resources in a specific functional area necessary for overall project design development to support work sharing concept.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates with project managers to determine scope, complexity, and planning and scheduling requirements of projects. Coordinates overall staffing needs with Group Lead to determine ability to assign local personnel to provide engineering and technical support on local projects, determines personnel needed with most appropriate individual qualifications and prepares/coordinates manpower and cost estimates of local department as required.
- Ensures the quality, accuracy, and completeness of departmental work as to engineering, design, and CAD quality; compliance with established IPS standards, procedures, codes and ordinances; adherence to design and project schedules. Coordinates training, technical and administrative guidance, and instruction to personnel with the Group Lead and the local HVAC department.
- Monitors / Coordinates various personnel functions, including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, salary position recommendations, and employee development for Group Lead (Provides local management consistent with overall corporate direction) Plans, Coordinates and schedules work for the local department ensuring the proper and effective distribution of assignments and manpower, space, and facilities for subsequent performance of duties. Contact person for inter-office labor, work sharing and outsourcing to consultants.
- Coordinates local needs for staff and equipment/office requirements with Group Lead.
- Assists in development and approval of IPS departmental policies and technical standards and procedures. Assists in the development and coordination of divisional and inter-departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
- Prepares regular and special reports for the local regional office and analyzes, setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
- Participate in preparation and delivery of sales presentations.

Educational Background and Previous Experience
- Registered professional engineer with a minimum of 8 – 10 years’ experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Progressive ability, capacity, and aptitude in administration to plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate technical work and to obtain cooperation from others.
- LEED AP certification or other credential preferred.
- Demonstrated Project Management / Department Management experience.
- Analytical thinking, structured problem solving skills, superior communications skills, team building and strong work ethic. Must be able to build rapport with department staff and interoffice staff.
